What is the Privacy Opt-Out Tool?
The Privacy Opt-Out Tool allows you to manually suppress users—either individually or in bulk—to ensure they are fully opted out from all tracking and communications.
Use this tool when a user has submitted a data deletion or privacy request (such as under CCPA), and you want to make sure their information isn’t collected, processed, or sent to your email platform—even if they return to your site later.
Adding users to this list ensures their privacy preferences are respected across all interactions.
⚠️ Important Note ⚠️
In order for this tool to be used it must be enabled in the back end, please contact your Implementation Manager, Customer Success Manager or support[at]retention[dot]com to get this tool enabled for your account.

Navigate to Suppression Lists, and click Custom Opt-Out.
Once you're on the Custom Opt-Out page, you can opt out users in two ways:

--OR--
Bulk Upload file via CSV
- Upload a.csvfile containing a single column titledemail
- Sample file of what we expect here: example_file.csv
Submit the form to apply the opt-out. Once submitted, the tool will process your entries and apply the opt-outs.
Opt-Out API
As an alternative, we offer an API that allows you to upload a file of email addresses or MD5 hashes for individuals you do not want Retention.com to resolve.
You can submit up to 5 requests per day, with each request supporting up to 40,000 email addresses or hashes.
For full implementation details, please refer to our API documentation here.
