Integrate with Attentive Email for Grow

Updated this week

You can integrate your Retention.com account directly with Attentive to:

  1. Automatically send contacts acquired in your Retention.com account to Attentive.

  2. Suppress your existing contact list from Attentive in Retention.com

  3. Ability to set up custom filters to sync filters (ie, send leads from different domains to different lists or ESPs).

What you'll need

‼️ Note that using Grow with Attentive will require that you be on a dedicated sending IP with Attentive. Your Attentive CSM can help you with this.

For this integration, you will need assistance from your Attentive CSM. Your Retention.com Implementation or Client success manager will work with you and Attentive to connect the integration. Attentive will need to provide:

  • A dedicated Sending IP

  • An SFTP username and password if you don't already have one

  • A Marketing API Sign Up Unit

  • Implementation of of an SFTP feed for suppression

  • Implementation of our suppression script on any Attentive-hosted signup forms on your website

In Attentive

Enable SFTP

1. Go to Settings > SFTP Account Management to check your access settings.

  • If you don't have an Attentive SFTP account, request SFTP access from your designated Attentive Client Success manager or their white glove team at whiteglove[at]attentivemobile[dot]com. You will be required to provide an email address that will be used to manage the SFTP account and reset the password.

  • Once you've done that, Attentive will send you an email with the account credentials. Click the link in the email to set a permanent password, and save the username and password. Those will be the FTP Username and FTP Password needed to set up the Attentive integration in Retention.com.

  • Once SFTP is enabled, email your Retention.com rep and cc your Attentive Client Success Manager to request next steps for completing Suppression setup via SFTP in Attentive. We will work with them to create the necessary files. **This step must be completed before proceeding.**

In Retention.com

Connect the integration

1. Navigate to your Retention.com dashboard.

2. Click on Integrations from the left navigation panel in Retention.com. Then, click Available Integrations at the top and select the Attentive icon.

3. Click on Connect. Activate Grow (and Reclaim if you'll be using it!). The page will redirect you to your Attentive dashboard.

4. Click on Authorize to complete the integration. You will be redirected back to your Retention dashboard.

5. When redirected back to your Retention dashboard, a message will appear in the top right of the screen letting you know the integration was successful.

6. In your Attentive dashboard, select Marketplace from the left navigation menu. Confirm that the Retention app shows up under the “Installed by you” tab.

Configure the integration settings

1. Click on Integrations from the left navigation panel in Retention.com. Then, click the three dots to modify Settings.

2. Note that Attentive must set up your SFTP suppression files before this step. See "Enable SFTP" above for details.
Set up Suppression: Click Yes to Automatically suppress contacts and enter your SFTP username and password.

3. Grow Sync: Click Yes to upload collected contacts and add the Marketing API Signup Unit ID (provided by your Attentive rep).

Then, choose whether you want to enable custom sync options. If you check the box to enable custom sync options, that will display five options: filter by email domain, full or portion of a landing page URL, landing page domain, state, and referrer URL.

This feature allows you to filter your Retention.com contacts before you send them to your ESP. For example, you can send all contacts who hit different landing pages to separate lists. Or, send all of your California leads to one ESP and Texas leads to another.

Email domain: This field auto-fills/populates with email domains (ex. Gmail, Yahoo Mail, AOL, etc.) from your collected contacts.

Full or portion of a landing page URL: If you’ve put the script on several pages or the entire site, this field allows you to pull out contacts who have only hit Landing Page A or Landing Page B. This option does not auto-populate, so you will have to add in the exact URL.

Landing page domain: If you added script to both Retention.com and Robly.com, for example, the landing page domain would be either Retention.com or Robly.com. This field will auto-populate.

State: This filter allows you to pull out only contacts from one or more states.

Referrer URL: This is the URL the contact comes to your site from.

4. Click Finish Setup and Enable the integration.

  3. Click Get started.

Some templates will have added dynamic content that allows for a discount or offer to be added to the message. If you add an offer this dynamic content will automatically populate with it when sent.

    • If you do not want to include an offer, simply do not assign one and make sure to remove any dynamic content that contains {{subscriber.signupOffer.code}}, {{subscriber.signupOffer.code}}, {{subscriber.signupOffer.code}} from the Welcome journey.

    • Give your journey a unique name to make it easier to find later. To name your journey, click the three dots next to the Turn on button and click Rename.

  6. Make any other desired changes to your journey and then click Turn on in the upper-right corner.

  7. Next, assign your newly created welcome journey to a sign-up unit. From the Sign-Up Units tab, find the Marketing API Sign-Up Unit that has been created and assign it to your new welcome journey.

  8. Click the three dots next to the Sign-Up Unit you want to add and select Reassign.

  9. Click the SMS Welcome Journey dropdown and select the new welcome journey you turned on earlier.

  10. Click Reassign.

  11. Your Grow Welcome Journey will now be sent out to all new Grow contacts as they are synced over via the Integration.
